Statement from AgriGrowth on COVID-19 Vaccine Being Made Available to Agri-Food Frontline Workers in Minnesota

March 9, 2021

Saint Paul, MINN.—Today, Governor Tim Walz announced the next phase of vaccinations in Minnesota which includes approximately 44,000 frontline food plant workers.

Executive Director Tamara Nelsen of AgriGrowth, a nonprofit, nonpartisan member organization representing the agriculture and food industry, released the following statement:

"Today’s news is so important for the thousands of dedicated men and women who have worked throughout this pandemic to ensure a strong, healthy and safe food supply for consumers. Agri-food workers are instrumental in protecting our food supply chain which is not only critical to feeding American families, but also to our national security.

"From day one, AgriGrowth and its members have been collaborating with the Governor’s Office, the Minnesota Department of Health, the Minnesota Department of Agriculture, and other key leaders to protect our food supply chain and advocate for vaccinating frontline agri-food workers early in the COVID-19 vaccine rollout.

"AgriGrowth and our members will continue to coordinate with agency leaders to ensure our workers can be vaccinated, cold storage vaccines can be stored and distributed, and more, because the safety and well-being of our agri-food workers is of the utmost importance."
